Norwegian Silver Cup, Jacob Tostrup, c. 1900


Fine quality sterling silver with hallmark for Jacob Torstrup.  Hallmark can be seen just under the upper rim on the left side of the photo.  This piece dates to 1880-1900.  It is plique-a-jour in style with four glass panels and the reminder of the cup is flowers and leaves.  Inside the cup is a raised face of a young girl with flowing hair.  The piece measures just under 2″ high, and the diameter is also 2″.  Unique piece.

Jacob Torstrup (1806-1890) was a noted Norwegian silversmith.  His firm was located in Oslo and it was known for fine silver.  After his death, the firm was continued by Torstrup’s son-in-law, Torolf Prytz.
