Bill Clayton (1934-2006) was a specialist trompe l’oeil artist who lived and worked in Nottingham. He was the leading British artist of his day in this genre (trompe l’oeil) and numbered amongst collectors of his work is the well known lawyer Baroness Shackleton of Belgravia. His work is in Nottingham Castle, Museum & Art Gallery and in the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum in Coventry, as well as many private collections.
This painting sold at Doyle’s Auction in New York City in 2007 for $2500. This artist’s works have sold at auction for up to $5,000.
