Biography from Maresella Galleries

Joseph W. Sosnowski was born in Syracuse NY in 1971. Son of an Air Force officer, Joseph spent part of his younger years in Europe before coming back to NY. Upon finishing school he joined the Air Force, and over the next 20 years Joseph traveled the world before retiring in 2009.

The next phase of his life began while he was still in the Air Force. The purchase of a George Inness oil painting led him in the direction of becoming an artist. Joseph was amazed by the style and mood of Inness’s work and began studying every aspect of his technique. He began painting in oil following the guidance of Dennis Sheehan, and adopted the style of Tonalism. Joseph studied some of the best 19th Century artists and their work, and after collecting art for some years, he now paints full time.

Joseph draws inspiration from the Central NY/Hudson River landscape along with the surrounding Finger Lakes, as he makes Skaneateles NY his home. He currently owns a gallery and continues to paint full time.
