William Joseph Eastman was born in 1881 in Cleveland, Ohio. Eastman was a Clevelander who graduated from the Cleveland School of Art in 1912. Following a period at the Art Students League in New York, he became an instructor at the Cleveland School of Art. During his career, Charles Burchfield became a friend, frequently working together and sharing ideas. He exhibited at the Cleveland Museum of Art May Shows. He traveled extensively and painted in many countries over the years. He became the president of the Cleveland Society of Artists in 1931. He was a tireless campaigner for promoting art and artists in Cleveland. Eastman passed away in 1950.
